The Foodist Project
Food · Pop Art Realism · Bold Color · Still Life
JJ has recently taken up cooking. Her husband — the household's longtime culinary authority — is bearing it with great patience. The kitchen, it turns out, is also an extraordinary still life studio. The Foodist Project grew directly out of this delicious experiment: bold, pop art-inflected paintings of food rendered in vivid realism, celebrating the beauty of ingredients, dishes, and the occasional spectacular failure. Think Warhol had he been more interested in what was actually in the soup can. Every painting in this series is a love letter to food — and a quiet apology to everyone who has eaten at JJ's table lately.
