How to Commission a Portrait

There's nothing quite like having a piece of art made just for you. No prints, no copies — a one-of-a-kind painting that's entirely yours.

Here's how it works…

Step 1: The Star of the Show (Plus a Crown)

Who am I portraying? Your pet, or your favorite animal? Every subject gets a crown, so think about what goes on top: your favorite food, your pet's favorite food, or your pet's favorite toy! Give me lots of ideas and I'll cook up something for your art.

Step 2: Set the Scene

We'll pick a background color specific to the place where you plan to hang the piece. If you don't know yet, no worries — I'll find the perfect color to complement your subject.

Step 3: Size and Price

12" in diameter or 12"h x 12"w — $550

18" in diameter or 18"h x 18"w — $650

22" in diameter or 22"h x 22"w — $750

24" in diameter or 24"h x 24"w — $850

30" in diameter or 30"h x 30"w — $1,100

Step 4: Deposit and Reference Photos

Once all the logistics above are decided, I'll send an electronic invoice for 50% of the total to get us started. I work from photographs that you provide — they don't need to be professional, just a selection of your favorite images. A front, eye-level view works best. In other words, if the subject is looking up at you in the photograph, that won't work.

Step 5: Sketch Approval

With your deposit in and photos in hand, I'll draw up a sketch of my idea for the painting. Once you approve the sketch, I start laying down the first layers of paint.

Step 6: Draft 1 and Background Check

Once the first layers are down, the painting becomes Draft 1, and we lock in the background color together. Once you give it the thumbs up, I get to work bringing the painting to completion.

Step 7: The Big Reveal

Upon completion, I'll send you a final image for approval. Once you're happy with it, I'll send the second invoice — covering the remaining 50% plus shipping — and get your new piece packed up and on its way to you.
